Spiritual Direction

The practice of Spiritual Direction, also known as spiritual companionship, spiritual guidance and in Hebrew Hashpaah, is the process of being accompanied on one’s spiritual journey.  The process is an ongoing relationship between the individual, who chooses to look at their personal relationship with God and their Spiritual Director, Mashpia, who accompanies them on their spiritual journey.

The central relationship in the process of Spiritual Direction is between the directee (the seeker or mushpa in Hebrew) and God.  The Mashpia, Director, serves as a guide for the directee in identifying their relationship to God and how it manifests itself in the directee’s life.  A Spiritual Director will pay attention to the directee’s inner life and assists the directee in learning discernment, the ability of a person to find God’s presence in their life.

As a Spiritual Director, Rabbi Terry meets with people privately in person or on the phone for long distance directees.  She also meets with people in Group Spiritual Direction.  Once a month meetings are usually scheduled but can be more frequent upon request.

Spiritual Direction has become the most meaning aspect of Rabbi Terry’s rabbinate and she invites you to join her on one of the most important journeys of your life: the journey to discover God's presence in your life.
